Plantation shutters cost more than any blind and less than most people expect once fitting is included: we price them per window on a free survey, and the figure depends on three things, the material (PVC or hardwood), the style (full height, café or tier-on-tier) and the size and shape of the window. There is no square-metre list price because a bay with three panels and a small bathroom window of the same total area do not cost the same to make.
How UK shutter prices are usually quoted
Most UK guides quote shutters per square metre of window. Published figures from UK home-improvement sources in 2026 run from roughly £180 to £300 per square metre for PVC up to around £300 to £500 per square metre for hardwood, with fitting sometimes extra. Those ranges are a fair guide to the market, but a square-metre price hides the things that actually move a quote, which is why we price each window on the survey instead.
What decides the price of your shutters

|---|---|---|
| Material | Nevada or Hampton PVC: waterproof, 10-year manufacturer warranty | Madison hardwood: 26 colours, custom colour matching, best insulation |

| Window | One flat window, standard size | A bay (one frame per face), tall landing windows, shaped or arched glass |

| Finish | Stock white or cream | Stains and colour matches to a paint reference |
PVC or hardwood?
Nevada and Hampton PVC shutters are waterproof, will not warp or peel in steam, and carry a 10-year manufacturer warranty, which makes them the right choice for bathrooms, kitchens and anywhere humid. Madison hardwood is sustainably sourced, gives the richest finish and the best insulation, comes in 26 colours and can be matched to a paint, fabric or tile reference. For living rooms, bedrooms and bays most customers choose Madison; for bathrooms and kitchens, PVC.
Full height, café or tier-on-tier?
- Full height covers the whole window with one set of panels. The cleanest look and the one most people picture.
- Café style covers the lower half only, so the street cannot see in but daylight pours in above. It uses less material, so it costs less.
- Tier-on-tier has separate top and bottom panels that open independently: privacy below, light above, at the higher end of the price.
Bay windows
A bay is priced as the sum of its faces, each with its own frame and panels, joined at the angles with matching frames so the run looks continuous. Three faces cost roughly three windows of the same size. A full-height bay in Madison hardwood is the largest single shutter job in most homes.
Lead time, deposit and warranty
- Every panel is handcrafted to the window, so allow 8 to 10 weeks from the survey to the fitting.
- Quotes are written and fixed for 30 days. A deposit is paid on order; for shutters it may be larger than the standard 50% and is stated on the quote.
- Fitting by our own team is included. PVC shutters carry a 10-year manufacturer warranty; Madison hardwood is covered by the manufacturer’s warranty and all our fitting is guaranteed.
Are shutters worth it?
Shutters cost more up front than blinds and last longer: there is no fabric to fade, no cord to fail and nothing to wash. They insulate better than any blind, give the best privacy control in a street-facing room, and are the one window dressing that is routinely mentioned in a house sale. If you plan to stay in the house five years or more, or the window is the one people see from the road, they usually justify the price. If you need blackout for a bedroom or want to change colours every few years, a blind is the better buy.
